According to physicist organization network on June 9 (Beijing time) reported that the U.S. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, researchers such as by controlling the waste wood and biomass in the volatile components, developed a stable bio-synthetic crude oil (biosyncrude ), so that timber traffic directly into Bio-fuel possible.
The study’s leader, Virginia Tech associate professor of agriculture and life sciences Foster? Abbey China said that in the aspen and pine wood and other raw materials into a liquid fuel, first get the basic bio-oil, because of this foundation unstable and acidic bio-oil, the traditional processing techniques can not be directly converted into transportation fuel. Not only that, the storage period, this basic bio-oil will become more and more dense, until it becomes converted to charcoal to heat another substance. So the basis of bio-oil storage in just a few months later, no longer suitable for use as a bio-fuel substances.
The researchers studied a biomass volatile components: cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, and control was carried out separately, finally received the biosynthesis of stable crude oil. In addition, they also developed a new catalyst, making the biosynthesis of crude oil even if the store more than 1 year will not become more viscous. Abbey China said that this was the first scientist to produce a stable crude oil biosynthesis.
Abbey China, said that bio-oil can be synthesized using conventional oil refinery infrastructure for production. The next step in the direction of research is to save R & D complex in the middle of the process, so that wood biomass directly into a bio-fuel, used for transportation fuel. Abbey China believes that three years, people can use the existing refinery to produce a large number of stable, affordable biofuel. Then, at the end of refinery inputs of wood, gasoline will come out the other end.
The study was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, is its beginning in 2008 as part of the biomass program. The plan will biochemistry and thermo-chemical method as biofuels research and development in two ways. The thermal chemical methods are mainly concerned two lines, one after the gasification process and fuel synthesis, another is the processing of liquefied bio-oil and fuel synthesis.
